Our Lawyers - Profile of Grace Chen

Grace Chen
Grace Chen was born and raised in Vancouver. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Simon Fraser University with a double major in Psychology and Criminology. During her undergrad studies, she worked at a private investigation company transcribing surveillance videos. She went on to complete her law degree at the University of British Columbia. In her final year of law school, Grace traveled abroad and studied law at Keele University in England.

Grace joined Murphy Battista in 2003, working part-time while completing her law degree. Besides work and school, Grace volunteered with various non-profit organizations. She volunteered as a student clinician through the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program, providing free legal advice to people in the community who could not otherwise afford it. She assisted with the operations of the Salvation Army Pro Bono Program. In addition, she was instrumental in establishing the first bankruptcy pro bono clinic in Vancouver through her participation with Access Justice.

Grace completed her articles with the firm and was called to the bar in 2006.

Grace enjoys the challenges that the law presents. She has a keen insight into legal issues, and takes a creative approach to solving the problems of her clients. Grace has appeared in Provincial Court and Supreme Court. She has appeared on chambers matters and assisted senior lawyers at trial. Her clients have been victims of motor vehicle and motorcycle accidents, slip and falls, police negligence, assaults, and defective products.

Grace sits on the Executive Committee for the Trial Lawyers of British Columbia. She is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association and American Association for Justice.

Grace is fluent in Cantonese. In her spare time, Grace enjoys traveling, reading and walking her Pug along the Seawall.
